College Track Internship with SFO – DUE 6/1

This internship offers young people ages 18-25 the opportunity to gain work experience at the airport while also attending a local college. Interns work in one of the many Airport Commission offices assisting with mostly administrative, or clerical tasks. There are also internship positions that involve hands on work and customer service.

 

ABOUT CAREER CONNECT: COLLEGE TRACK (20 hours per week, $18.64/hr)

 

11-month paid internship that allows youth to gain on-the-job training and increase their ability to get and keep a job while also attending college.

 

Interns in our training programs are hired as temporary employees of the City and County of San Francisco in the 9920 Assistant to Professional series.

 

All interns receive training in Microsoft Excel, Powerpoint, and Outlook. There are paid opportunities to take more computer classes as an intern.

 

Interns attend a paid six week SFO orientation. During orientation interns work between 15-20 hours per week.

 

After successful completion of the orientation College Track interns are placed in their SFO Host Office. SFO Host Office sites include Reprographics, Contracts Administration Unit, SFPD: Airport Bureau, the Security Access Office, Terminal Systems, and more! Each intern's host office is determined by SFO Internships staff.

 

In addition to working in an office at SFO, interns will also work with the SFO Internships team to develop life skills around money management,

communication, housing and transportation, and job readiness.

 

BART tickets/transit tokens are provided to interns in good standing.

 

AFTER COLLEGE TRACK: Transition to SFO Employment with one of the tenant businesses

Interns are evaluated throughout their internship by all levels of SFO Internships staff and their SFO Mentors at their host office.

o Interns that successfully complete the Employment Track internship are provided transition services in seeking employment with private companies at SFO

o Past SFO Interns have transitioned to positions such as Ramp Agents, Customer Service Associates, Baristas, Food Service Workers, Bag Wrappers, etc. The average wage for an employee at an airport company is $13.52/hour

 

The path for a successful Career Connect: Employment Track intern:

Employment Track Internship (orientation, on-the-job training) Graduation from College Track Employment Transition Workshops Hired at an SFO or outside company

 

 

Permanent or long-term employment with the Airport, Airport Commission or the City and County of San Francisco is not promised or guaranteed by this program. The goal of this program is to assist the participants to become job ready.

 

APPLICANT REQUIREMENTS

Between the ages of 18-25

Enrolled in 6 or more units at a local community college or university

GED, Diploma, or Certificate of Completion

No felony convictions for the last 10 years

Ability to pass a drug screen

Ability to work between 15-20 hours per week Monday-Friday between the hours of 8am-5pm

Either living in San Francisco or with a San Francisco affiliation (originally from SF, went to school in SF, out of home placement in SF, etc.)

No need to be the 'perfect' job candidate. Career Connect is for young people looking to improve their skill set.
