What does it mean to 'express interest' in a job opening?

Mayor’s Youth Jobs+ is a way for you to find job opportunities that are open to young people like yourself who are starting their careers. When you find a job opening through Youth Jobs+, you 'express interest' to let the Mayor’s Youth Jobs+ team know you would like to be considered for that job. The Mayor’s Youth Jobs+ team then reviews your resume and qualifications to make sure you are a good fit for the job you are interested in. If you are a good fit the Mayor’s Youth Jobs+ team will send your resume directly to the employer for that position.

This process gives you an advantage because your resume goes directly to a hiring manager if you are qualified for a position. You will probably still have to complete the employer's application, but with a referral from Mayor’s Youth Jobs+ your chances of getting contacted for an interview and getting hired are much greater!
