What is Youth Jobs+?

Youth Jobs+ is a city-wide year-round program to help San Francisco youth ages 16-24 find employment. Since 2012, we have helped over 19,000 young people find jobs and work opportunities! This initiative is a partnership between the City of San Francisco, United Way of the Bay Area, the Department of Children, Youth & Their Families, the Office of Economic and Workforce Development, the San Francisco Unified School District, youth-serving nonprofits and the San Francisco business community.

Who can participate?

Young adults ages 16-24 are able to participate. You must be ready to work and available for jobs in San Francisco, but you do not need to have any previous experience.

What types of jobs are available?

Most jobs are temporary and part-time, although some permanent and full-time positions are available as well. Most positions are entry-level and include customer service, retail, sales, food service, office support, skill-building internships, work-training opportunities, maintenance and hospitality.

Are the positions paid?

Yes, all positions are paid. Most positions are either paid the San Francisco minimum wage or there is a stipend.

What if I don’t have a resume?

Through our partner organizations, we can help you create a resume, practice your interview skills and navigate the system. Email sfyouthjobs@uwba.org for more information. You must have a resume in order to be referred to employers for positions you are interested in.

How do I express interest in job openings?

After registering, log back in at www.sfyouthjobs.org and scroll down the page to see job openings. To view the details of any job opening, click on the job title. If you decide you are interested in that position, click the “Express Interest” button at bottom of the job details page.

What does it mean to “express interest” in a job opening?

Youth Jobs+ is a way for you to find job opportunities that are open to young people like yourself who are starting their careers. When you find a job opening through Youth Jobs+, you “express interest” to let the Youth Jobs+ team know you would like to be considered for that job. The Youth Jobs+ team then reviews your resume and qualifications to make sure you are a good fit for the job you are interested in. If you are a good fit the Youth Jobs+ team will send your resume directly to the employer for that position.

This process gives you an advantage because your resume goes directly to a hiring manager if you are qualified for a position. You will probably still have to complete the employer’s application, but with a referral from Youth Jobs+ your chances of getting contacted for an interview and getting hired are much greater!
