JOB SUMMARY
Produce Clerks are responsible for the proper stocking and rotation of merchandise in the produce department, including trimming, watering, and merchandising of products to ensure fresh, high quality offerings. They are responsible for proper inventory control to maximize product freshness and availability. The Produce Clerk stocks, answers questions from guests about produce, and makes recommendations of additional items to customers. They assist in the tidying and cleaning of the department, as well as other stocking or cleaning assignments received by management.

Daily Responsibilities
' Delivers outstanding guest service at all times as outlined in The Market's Service Standards Philosophy.
' Completes specific duties and projects assigned by management when necessary. This includes special daily cleaning tasks. Ensures the product department is tidy and hazard-free at all times.
' Conducts daily checks of equipment and coordinates any maintenance necessary for safe and efficient production in the department. Reports possible issues to management immediately. Uses and ensures coworkers use equipment and machinery safely and properly at all times.
' Assists guests with any questions related to the Produce Department.
' Assists with cashiering when necessary as directed by management.

Stocking
' Stocks, rotates, and faces product.
' Coordinates and communicates with the Receiving & Stocking Manager and coworkers regarding delivery schedules.
' Prioritizes all tasks and ensures they are completed in a correct and timely fashion. This includes the prioritization of all deliveries and stocking. Follows up with management to ensure the completion of all tasks and the proper storage of all deliveries.
' Inspects incoming product for quality and accuracy based on accompanying invoices, under the direction of the Receiving & Stocking Department.
' With the Produce Lead, works with the Visual Merchandiser, Purchaser, and Marketing Manager to ensure the proper merchandising and displays throughout the department. Helps to build these displays as directed.
' Identifies inadequate product and follows protocol on proper logging and disposal.

Training
' Maintains a thorough knowledge of all product to ensure proper quality control and assists with the training of new staff.
' Participates in the training and coaching of all new department staff regarding procedures and policies, safety, and any other necessary information. This includes training on the proper way to inspect product, identify any issues, and what to do with any spoiled product.
' Participates in ongoing training regarding any ongoing safety and sanitation concerns.
' Participates in training on and ensures proper rotation and FIFO practices.

Administrative
' Regularly meets with the Produce Lead to review assignments, product or delivery changes, anticipated business levels and any information pertinent to job performance. Discusses any other additions or changes to equipment or maintenance needs.
Adherence to Company Guidelines
' Maintains a thorough knowledge of and complies with all Company policies and procedures of The Market concepts.
' Reports on time for scheduled shifts and in proper uniform.

Key Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS
' Minimum one year experience as a produce clerk or similar experience in a grocery/food service environment.
' Must be 18 years or older.
' High School Diploma or equivalent vocational training certificate.
' Must possess a passion for safety.
' CA Food Handler's Card required.
' Ability to perform all necessary functions with attention to detail, timeliness and accuracy, while being able to prioritize, organize, and effectively complete tasks.
' Ability to think clearly, remain calm and resolve problems professionally and with good judgment.
' Ability to effectively, legibly, and professionally communicate (verbally and in writing) in English with co-workers, guests and management to their understanding.
' Ability to speak and understand Spanish desirable but not required.
' Ability to compute basic mathematical calculations.
' Ability to work nights, weekends, and some holidays.
' Versatility, self-discipline, organization, strong work ethic and sense of teamwork.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS& WORKING ENVIRONMENT
' Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds of material or equipment.
' Ability to work up to a 12 hour shift.
' Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time throughout a shift.
' Ability to ascend and descend stairs and ladders.
' Ability to bend downward and forward by bending legs and spine, turn and bend at the waist, stoop, kneel, lift, and carry.
' Ability to work with all food items used at The Market on Market.
' Ability to receive detailed information through oral and written communication.
' Ability to work with and around various conditions of a commercial food service facility, including exposure to steam, cold, open flames, cooking exhaust, deep fat fryers, machinery with moving parts and cleaning solvents and agents.
' Ability to work safely with knives and other sharp objects.
' Ability to work in tight physical spaces with other team members.
' Ability to endure moderate to high noise levels.
